Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who is License Store for?
License Store is for anyone who buys Mac apps outside the App Store and wants one place for license keys, license files, invoices, download links, notes, and expiration dates. It is especially useful for developers, freelancers, consultants, and Mac power users who manage multiple app licenses.
-
Why use License Store instead of a password manager?
A password manager can be enough if you only want a secure place for a few license keys. License Store is built specifically for software licenses and related app information. It gives you a dedicated app-based library, support for both license keys and license files, quick access to invoices and attachments, import tools, export options, and a UI designed specifically for this job.
-
Is my data encrypted?
License Store stores data locally and can sync it through your private iCloud account. It does not add a separate app-level encryption layer on top of that. If you want password-manager-style protection for license data, a password manager may be the better fit. We also recommend enabling FileVault on your Mac.
-
Do you collect personal data or usage analytics?
No. License Store does not collect personal data, usage statistics, analytics, or telemetry. We do not track how you use the app and we do not store any information about your activity.
Full details are available in the Privacy Policy.
-
Does the app synchronize data via iCloud?
Yes. License Store uses iCloud to keep your library in sync across your Macs automatically. Your data stays tied to your own Apple account.
-
Can I export or move my data to another Mac later?
Yes. You can export your data as JSON, CSV, or a License File (.ls) and import it later on another Mac. License Store also supports automatic synchronization through iCloud, so your library can stay in sync across your Macs without manual export.
-
What does app import detect automatically?
App import can detect basic app information such as the app name, icon, version, and bundle identifier. In some cases, it can also import extra metadata provided by the app, such as a website or download link. It does not automatically find your license key.
-
Can I import apps I already have installed?
Yes. You can drag
.appfiles into License Store, choose them from disk, import from JSON or CSV, or use Find & Import Apps to scan installed apps and import them one by one. -
Can I keep invoices, manuals, and other files with each app?
Yes. Each app entry can include attachments such as invoices, receipts, manuals, PDFs, or other related files, so everything stays together in one place.
-
Does License Store support both license keys and license files?
Yes. License Store supports both text-based license keys and file-based licenses, so you can store the format each app actually uses.
-
Is it a one-time payment or a subscription?
It is a one-time purchase for the current major version. There is no subscription. Future major upgrades (for example 2.0) may require a paid upgrade, while minor updates within the current version are free.
-
Why does License Store require macOS Tahoe?
License Store was built around the newer macOS Tahoe UI and platform APIs from the start. That allowed us to focus on making the app feel fully at home on current macOS, rather than trying to support multiple generations of system UI.
